Munsell
The Hue is the basic color; Value is brightness/darkness; and Chroma is purity/intensity of the color. The code is written as Hue Value Chroma; e.g., 7.5YR5/4 where the Hue is 7.5, Value is 5, and the Chroma is 4.
These codes have meaning with respect to the interpretation of soil characteristics.
